Visitation

Unbriefed, they arrive from another country
for a weekend: The two of them, one six and
the other eight. A granduncle has no assigned
feature in a nuclear structure where the glue
isn’t finance. Questions diffuse the dryness
in a crescive equation, but the duo refuses
to engage with the rudimentary elements
of conversational stencils. I strive to endear
myself to them, but our bout goes down
like a lead balloon.

Occurrence

Imaginary wind shears caution me to alter tracks.
I go in to purchase a sturdier windcheater. Those
in the know whisper to me about my fault lines.
Take another pick, they plead. I obey. My next-
door neighbor is a poet manqué with a million
lines that refuse to reach anywhere. With every
heave-ho, his resolve deepens. Velleity is a weak
wicket on the pitch of creative shots, but no one
dares to break it to him. Gravy alters the map
for the bravest of cartographers.
